My wife absolutely ADORES this case for her iPhone 4. Everybody we know is quite jealous of it. It’s awesome to see that now it’s even thinner, and more useful than before! You better believe we’ll be getting one of these very soon!

I’m just wondering how you can actually talk on the phone with the case. Seem like it could be awkward holding on your ear. Anyone have experience with this?

It’s pretty easy and not awkward at all, at least not for my wife. Just having it hang open is easy to talk into, and if you want you can fold the cover around the back too so nothing hangs down.

Some people using the previous version of this product for their iPhone 4/4s reviewed on Amazon that the wood case falls off after using 2-3 months. Anybody experienced that for your iPhone 4/4s Pad&Quill cases?

If it has a decenct durability, it should be one of the best leather case for the iPhone.

Hasn’t happened to mine after over a year of pretty heavy use. The case and leather barely show any wear at all actually, and I use it daily. Not sure what those people on Amazon are complaining about. I’m sure if there’s any problems though you can just send it back and get it replaced.

    • Brian September 29, 2012 at 2:40 am - Reply

If that ever happened we would replace. Wood does not fall of our cases. This new model is totally different from little black book. Genuine leather inside and out. Very durable.

For those that have had prior versions of this case, how does the wood wear? Also, if anyone has used a BookBook case from Twelve South, any thoughts on a comparison? I used one of those with my iPhone 4S and loved it, with the exception of not having a hole for the camera – that was a pain.

Is this case for women only? or men use it too?

I called P & Q and asked them this very question. The gentleman told me in no uncertain terms that the little pocketbook was unisex or gender neutral. This is good because I want something elegant but masculine and professional. The term “pocketbook” is a bit awkward for male intended use. Perhaps a better term would have been “portfolio”. No worries; I intend to be a professional male who uses this carrier as a stylish alternative to the industrial/military looking cases usually offered.

The P&Q website has a disclaimer that says, “*does not support flash in order to preserve a book-like esthetic.” Does that mean the case doesn’t have a hole large enough to reach the flash? I assume it must have a hole for the camera lens? If so, why not the flash?

    • Spartacus September 28, 2012 at 4:24 pm - Reply

Hmm, that may have been with an old case. As you can see from this picture: http://www.padandquill.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/682×456/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/p/iphone5and4-212-camera-hole-5.jpg there is indeed a camera hole big enough for a flash.

      • RaptorOO7 October 12, 2012 at 1:29 am - Reply

I asked P&Q customer service about this as well, and what they indicated was that you can use the camera with the phone in the case, but that you should not use the flash. There is a possibility that the flash will reflect off of the wood surrounding the camera opening and leave a flash in your image. You would need to take the iP5 out of the case in order to use the flash while using the camera.

The reason is they would have to make the hole for the camera very large in order for the flash to not be an issue.

I am kind of torn with how often will I use the flash vs taking it out each time and risk dropping it and damaging my iP5. Otherwise I am looking at the Hex Axis Wallet case http://www.shophex.com and also waiting to see what TwelveSouth comes up with, meaning they had better incorporate a camera slot this time.

This is what I’ve been looking for. Protection, function and classic elegance. How can I order one?

  10. Katherine W October 10, 2012 at 10:32 pm - Reply

I have just pre-ordered one of these cases from the Pad and Quill website. I am having it shipped to Sydney, Australia with a shipping charge of $35. But shipping charges begin at around $16-17. It depends how quickly you want it delivered. In all I was charged $89.99 but I know it’s going to be worth it and can’t wait to get my hands on it in approx 4 weeks time :)

One thing that worries me with this design is getting out your wallet with creditcards, id, bank cards and money everytime you’re being called in public. Otherwise it looks like a wonderfull product.
